My friends,
As rescuers, volunteers, fosters, adopters, transporters, crossposters and animal rights activists, we have had to sit by and desperately save the dogs and cats of New York City in 2012. Still with every effort in our bodies and every cent in our pockets, the killing fields are littered with thousands of dogs and cats dead, continuing to be killed “by mistake”, killed in botched surgeries, killed because emails and phone calls are impossible to do professionally or efficiently with this utterly incompetent and dysfunctional system. We will NEVER RESCUE OURSELVES OUT OF THIS KILL POUND SYSTEM, to believe that we can is foolhardy. It MUST be changed from the ground up!
Our goal is to have the contract in NYC to be taken out from under the Department of Health and that a new nonprofit, besides the dismal failure of New York Animal Care and Control, take over the shelter system and begin a road that has never been traveled down in New York City - that of True No Kill.
We now know what we all suspected to be true that the termination of Julie Bank as Executive Director has been meaningless for the direction of NY-ACC. Despite the overwhelming power and might of the ASPCA killing the bill Companion Animal Access Rescue Act (CAARA) in NY State, despite the NYC Council by a vote of 46 to 50 to NOT build shelters in Queens and the Bronx, we seek to overpower them by sheer numbers and end of the murder of our cats and dogs forever!
We HAVE numbers of people, although we might not have the millions of dollars that elected officials and huge nonprofits such as ASPCA might have at their fingertips to block our efforts to save our precious cats and dogs in NYC. And since we have those numbers my friends, we will go out into the public of NYC and continue to educate and rally constituents of the NYC council that these lives CAN BE SAVED simply by there being the political will to do so. But we absolutely MUST STEP UP TO THE PLATE HERE. We MUST show THEM that we are strong in our voices, our hearts, our time, and our money that we will stand up to them and display our sheer dedication to save the lives of these precious furbabies.
Never before has any group presented an opportunity to NYC to gather 700+ people. What most people say is that it cannot be done but I say it can. Time is extremely limited. Our last protest in Times Square was wildly successful with 200 people but to stand up to the powers that be, we will need more people, more dedicated activists who will take the time out their schedule for one day TOGETHER and say WE ARE NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!! What are we going to have? Another year of thousands of dogs and cats die in front of us? No elected official and no member of the public and media itself will give us the time of day if we do not step up to the plate in numbers. NOW IS THE TIME, THE PLACE IS FIVE STAR IN LONG ISLAND CITY, QUEENS, NY ON JUNE 22, 2013. Let’s make this the year that changes everything everywhere!!
PS (No fur coats of course AND people can make an effort not to wear leather even better!! Thank you!)
